The all-new (and compliant) Hospify is here!

After conducting several beta tests with the help of amazing people like you, we've redeveloped Hospify from scratch and we're now incredibly excited to announce that a brand new Hospify app is live in both the Apple and Android app stores. Your Hospify messages will now be end-to-end encrypted, the app is compliant with UK and EU health data protection regulations, and - crucially - the new version is fast and reliable enough to use in a healthcare environment.
 

Why is Hospify important?

Everyday chat apps like WhatsApp, Viber, Facebook Messenger, Snapchat, Slack, Skype and Telegram might be encrypted but that alone is not enough to make them align with UK and EU health data laws. Have you ever received a picture on WhatsApp? Have a look in your phone's main photo gallery. The picture will most likely appear there, as well as in WhatsApp itself. This is because nearly everyone's devices automatically backup such pictures to the cloud. Even if you switch the feature off, gaffs by Apple and others can mean it gets switched back on without your knowledge.

This is just one of the many ways in which the design of standard consumer apps makes them vulnerable to abuse - and means they fall foul of the law when it comes to patient-identifiable health data. But Hospify is different. Hospify is specifically designed, not just to deliver messages securely, but to keep them confined to your device instead of floating around in a server cloud that could be located anywhere on the planet (the legislation insists that all EU health data only travels through servers that are physically situated in Europe).

From May 2018 you must publicly report any breaches of these rules that occur within your business (e.g. because a nurse has shared a piece of patient-identifiable information via WhatsApp) - and you risk a fine of up to 4% of your annual turnover for each such breach. Don't let this happen to you! Tell your healthcare colleagues, staff and patients to stop using WhatsApp and other apps like it when they're at work, and to use Hospify instead. On the surface, they won't notice a lot of difference; Hospify looks and feels much like any other messaging app. But underneath, there's all the difference in the world. 
 

Get compliant - download Hospify now!

To download Hospify to your Apple or Android device just search in the app stores for "Hospify" or click on the relevant buttons on our "Get the App" page. (If you have one of our earlier beta test versions, please delete that before reinstalling). Once you've registered and completed the email confirmation, go to Add Contacts and search for the name of a friend or colleague to add them to your personal directory. Then message them just as you would with WhatsApp, Messenger or SMS.
 

Forthcoming features

Now we've got the core messaging up and running we're hard at work on some crucial extra features that are particularly relevant to use in healthcare:

  • Encrypted picture messaging
  • Group messaging function
  • Secure message export (so you can export important messages to your computer and then upload them to the patient record)
  • In-app PIN code (to further protect your Hospify account from prying eyes)

We'll be rolling these out as we complete them over the next few months, and in the meantime do email us with any comments, problems or suggested improvements on support@hospify.com. The sooner we hear about problems the faster we can fix them, and the more good ideas we hear about the better we can make the app. So don't hold back!
